Yes, he's had the operation done to his larynx. And he's as fluent as a native.

... which leads to the question: Privacy from whom? AFAIU everybody here now understands frog-talk and they are in Momma Seagrass's home - who could listen in here and not understand frog-talk?

Well, since the human personnel on the base is required to be able to speak frog-talk, it seems a bit unlikely that human eavesdroppers in orbit would not understand it, methinks...

...(RockB)- Well, the doughnutters think learning the native language, or having anything to do directly with the natives is beneath them, as they believe they and the humans that deal with them are inferior to them....

This is a bumper sticker slogan that dates back to April 1987. No one knows who created it. It’s taken 26+ years, or one generation, to finally believe it. Pew Research just proved it.

Patriotism is as dead as as the concept of government in their age. Even the original idea of a corporation has evolved into something we would have a hard time understanding. but trust me, there is no love lost between the corp "CEOs" and the rest.

Militaries in any era have the same mindset; bring a flamethrower to a fistfight. Of course when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. A planet buster does seem to be a tad extreme for the threat level, though. I guess it's like in Vietnam where a village needed to be destroyed in order to save it.

The Old Scribe- Yeah, as to the "gov" in this story, the ones in charge never leave their cozy, carefully maintained "cloud mansions" and haven't a fucking clue about the real world, let alone anything beyond it. They play ego-games with each other and spend most of their lives playing virtual reality games and watching movies. To them "war" is just another game.....
